NooB with linux + phpmyadmin

Ok i installed fedora core 3.
i got apache php and mysql set up from going along with
http://stanton-finley.net/fedora_cor...tion_notes.htm

i got a php test page working, same with apache. got the mysql set up.
got phpmyadmin installed did the config file.

i go to the page by either going to the pc router address, internet connection ip
i get the phpmyadmin login page.
i type in root username and the mysql password that i had set earlier on.

when i click log in i get HTTP could not be found.

when i type in any address like the ip assigned to it by the router
(192.168.0.05) or my IP address i get sent to http://127.0.0.1/phpmyadmin.

i can't even change the language.

i'm using firefox to access the pages.

any ideas what could be the problem is and how i can solve it?

i've used linux before under slackware. but using fedora i got further then i have before, i got the net working. and a small little web server so i can do some testing on

so i think i'm doing well so far for a novice in linux.

What happens when you go to;
http://localhost/phpmyadmin/Documentation.html
Do you see this?
'config' authentication mode

* This mode is the less secure one because it requires you to fill the $cfg['Servers'][$i]['user'] and $cfg['Servers'][$i]['password'] fields.
But you don't need to setup a "controluser" here: using the $cfg['Servers'][$i]['only_db'] might be enough.
* In the ISP FAQ section, there is an entry explaining how to protect your configuration file.
* For additional security in this mode, you may wish to consider the Host authentication $cfg['Servers'][$i]['AllowDeny']['order'] and $cfg['Servers'][$i]['AllowDeny']['rules'] configuration directives.
and this part;
Open the file config.inc.php in your favorite editor and change the values for host, user, password and authentication mode to fit your environment. Here, "host" means the MySQL server. Also insert the correct value for $cfg['PmaAbsoluteUri']. Have a look at Configuration section for an explanation of all values. Please also read the remaining of this Installation section for information about authentication modes and the linked-tables infrastructure.
