noatun... arts soundserver

hey
I am having some trouble with the arts soundserver.... when i am just using kde for normal use small system sounds work fine (like the kopete sounds etc). however some sounds that are longer like music or the startup shutdown sounds crackle, and hiss. Noatun will play a song fine, but when i minimize a window or open a window it just makes a crackling sound and stops playing, sometimes the kde startup sound will do the same thing.
I have tried changing the settings for the soundserver but nothing seems to work

rh 8.0, kde 3.05, emu10k1..... arts, noatun and everything else kde is updated to the latest. (it did the same thing on a fresh install as well)
anyone have a fix?
thanks
