No window manager in Gnome after system update

I am running Fedora Core 5 on an Intel Pentium IV system. I've been using Gnome as my desktop manager. However after performing a recent system update through YUM, Gnome no longer has any window manager when I run it. Application will launch, and there is no window border or title around them.

KDE runs fine and was not affected by what ever changes impacted Gnome.

What can I do to determine what is causing this problem and how to fix it?

I don't know much about gnome, but you could check to see if the WM binary is in your path. I think it is called "gnome-wm". If you find it, check what happens if you execute it manually? Just type it into a konsole (or gnome-terminal) and see what happens.

I performed another system update today, and now things are working. I don't know what caused the problem, and I don't know what fixed it.
