No video on several Linux systems

Sorry if the title is too generic. I have just installed Sabayon Linux, and it shows Flash Player as installed. In Firefox I can go to about:plugins, and see that I have flash installed. I can go to /usr/lib/firefox/plugins and see that I have libflashplayer.so. I have Google Chrome, and can go to chrome://plugins and see that flash is listed there too. But I can't play any video, other than opting to "try something new" in Youtube and play what few html5 videos that work that way.

I have asked in the Sabayon forum, https://forum.sabayon.org/viewtopic.php?f=86&t=28550

and they have tried to sort it out, but nothing so far has worked. It could be something I screwed up during the install, as this was my first try at Sabayon (and I like it, and would like to get this working). But what's bugging me is that this same problem has happened when I've tried Slackware, and Bodhi Linux. Sabayon has a nice installer for flash, but I've tried copying libflashplayer.so to Firefox's plugins file on both Slackware and Bodhi without success. Is there something going on with flash and Linux? I know Adobe has stopped supporting Linux, but I thought Google was working with them to make it work. I have Mint and Fedora, and they both play video without a hitch. But why can't I play video on other operating systems?

A couple of thoughts. Don't know if they are relevant or not.

I have it at /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so
Version 11.2.202.251
Webkit and Gecko Browsers use it from there.
How did you install it. Does Sabayon have it in the repository, did you build it yourself, or just copy libflashplayer.so over to the plugins folder?
You sure that you have a good version, and one that works with Sabayon?
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Sounds to me like the plugin you have just doesn't work.
