Try running (as root), alsaconf.
(If you are using a kernel > 2.4)

Hi Everybody,
I'm Praveen,a new Linux user. I recently installed FC3 on my system with Intel 915GAV motherboard (I installed FC3 because my SATA hard disk was not detected by FC4) . And this motherboard has inbuilt sound card which works alright with Windows XP. But with FC3, I get no sound. While running alsamixer, I get following message:

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory

Since, I am new user of linux, I do not know what to do next to make my system singing on linux also. So, I'm writing you all for help. I shall highly appreciate your valuable suggestions. Looking forward for your reply.
Regards

If alsaconf or any other utility doesn't help you, next step would be to learn what soundcard your system has followed by the step wherein you find out which sound module can drive the sound card on your system.

Try alsaconf or sndconfig whatever tool your installation provides you with, if it doesn't work - shout back.
