No sound on Xubuntu 10.10
Hello,
I'm having trouble getting my sound running on Xubuntu 10.10 computer. (Unfortunately I don't understand what is "real" name of my audio card, but here is output from aplay -l:) Code:
card 0: ICH5 [Intel ICH5], device 0: Intel ICH [Intel ICH5] Code:
00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 02) 1. most of controls in alsamixer are turned up, none muted. 2. tried to install new alsa drivers, but it fails searching for linux/config.h file, which I suppose was only in older kernels. (I have 2.6.35-22-generic). 3. I have tried swapping audio jack in several "audio holes", but not with all settings. (There are five of them). 4. Some people talk about getting headphones not muted, but I don't see any headphones control in alsamixer. Could you please help me to get the sound working? What should I try next? Or where could be the problem? I have searched internet and it seems like many people had problem with this one, but not that much got it working. Thanks for replies, in advance. |
Success. For those who may run into similar problems:
The only thing that was need to do was to install newest alsa-lib package. Fortunately, it does not require that old kernel's header files, so I could compile it without any problems. Cheers |

I have the same problem. Can you tell me how I do that? please! |
Well,
as you can see it happened some time ago, so I'll try to tell you as much as I remember about it. First, I guess you're using alsa (alsa.org), it's the only I have experience with it. You have to be sure that your sound card is detected by your system. (use some detection on tool like lshw). Next, you will need most of main packages mentioned on their page, so make sure they're installed on your system (with apt-get or synaptic pm), and you can reinstall them also. If yes, check if audio is not disabled in Xfce, also check alsamixer for audio tweaking. Skyer |
Ok. I've solved it, thanks!!!

Glad to hear that.
