No sound in tvtime ubuntu 9.04

I have a BrookTree bt878 tuner card and I am trying to use it to watch tv in tvtime. I have video working fine but no audio. I have plugged the sound out of my capture card into the line in of my sound card. If I unmute line in I get static.

When I run:
dmesg | grep audio
I get
[ 20.595683] bttv0: audio absent, no audio device found!
I have tried:
modprobe btaudio
but I get this error:
WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/bttv, it will be ignored in a future release.
FATAL: Module btaudio not found.
I have also tried:
modprobe snd_bt87x
but it doesn't appear to do anything.
