no sound in TVTIME!!!
 

hi all. i have configured tvtime, i can see very well tv but i cant get any sound!

tv card = flytv prime 30
chipset = Philips Semiconductors SAA7130 Video Broadcast Decoder
audio card = Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] Sound Controller (i810)
alsa drivers version = 1.0.6a
alsa headers version = 1.0.6a
kernel = 2.6.8-gentoo-r10

i have connected the tv card output to the line in of mi soundcard, that configuration works on windows but not in linux. i have paied attention to raise up volumes and that's not my problem...

if you have any idea, please reply.

i havent found any solution to my problem yet, i only discovered that the tv card works perfectly but there is "something" that blocks outgoing sound. i "only" have to discover WHAT is the cause. for *your* problem in particular (noise instead of sourd) i experienced the same problem using another program, *xawtv*, but, unfortunately, i cant tell you more.
i am still working on it, if i manage to solve it, you surely will be informed!

thanks mrosati! it's not problem of xawtv or tvtime as I've tried all of them and get same result, from posts I've read it could be either wrong PAL system or muted sound which is appear because card detect only noise and mute volume instead of giving noise to you.
Hope that we'll find solution for this, I'll promise to keep you informed about my findings as well, as I have no TV and don't plan switch to M$ to watch the tuner :)

I hope you solved yoor problem, but in case not you might find useful what follows:

I have a very similar card, FlyTV Prime 30 FM, also italian, and I have just managed to make it work, audio included, by specifying the parameter tuner=26 with the module saa7134 (e.g.
"modprobe saa7134 tuner=26").
You can find the possible values for this parameter in the file tuner.h of the sources of the saa7134 kernel module.

Without the tuner parameter I had video and not sound, as you reported.

I have the kernel 2.6.9 (on Debian Sid) but I believe it should work also with older kernels.

i'll try as soon as possible to follow your instructions! in the meantime i have changed distribution (mandrake 10.1) hoping to solve this problem automatically, but no luck! i'll try to recompile that module even if in mandrake this work is not so easy!

TV Time no sound
 

I am having same problem most of you are having with TV Time. Great Picture - no sound. I am using an ATI TV Wonder, which is connected to my sound card internally via cable. I know this cable works because my cd rom runs through tv card -> sound card through same cable and I get sound. I have tried using an external cable, but that hasn't worked either.
I am thinking it must be some sort of driver issue or an incorrect setting. I was hoping to run some diagnostics and see if that would bring up anything. I am a bit of a newbie on linux and don't know where to start or what i should be looking for.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!!!!!!

the only thing that i had to do was to configure the module of the tvcard (SAA7130) with tuner=26 (special thanks to Bockman). using mandrake this is very simple: the harddrake tool has a very simple module-configuring in-tool that lets you enter with no difficulties the values you need. after doind this re-load the module (or of course you can re-boot the entire system!) and voila the card sounds perfectly!!!

Creative Soundblaster Audigy LS - Line In is not working -
 

Distribution: Fedora Core 4
Sound Card: Soundblaster Live 24 Bit (Model Number = SB0410)
TV Tuner Card: ATI TV Wonder PCI

Can someone please confirm that the proper sound card is being detected. I am quite certain that I do not have "Creative Labs SB Audigy LS"

I am lost. Can someone explain to me what this all means? There is information about the Creative Labs SB0410 when I do this command. Are these two different cards or are they the same card?

My Setup

I have a vcr with rca cables plugged into my ATI TV Tunder Card.
I triple checked to make sure I had correct connections from the audio out of the vcr into the ATI TV Tuner Card. The connection from the ATI TV Tuner Card into the "Line In" of the Soundblaster Live is also correct.

tvtime works fine for displaying the video

I am also tested my sound with gxine and tested it playing "Revenge of the Sith". The sound for the center, front and rear speakers is working great.

The problem seems to be with not being able to access the "Line In" of the Soundblaster Live Sound Card.

When using kmix in the INPUT tab there is no panel for "Line In".
I also have tried with alsamixer.

I also tried connecting a pair of headphones into the tv out of the tv card and i don't get any sound.

I do think it is wiser to make sure that the "Line In" of the Soundblaster Live is configured properly. I tried plugging in a cd player into the "Line In" and there is no sound either.

Hello Batman23! I never dealt with SB live cards under Linux so it's hard for me to say what's your problem here...
But are you sure that it's only Line-In problem and not wrong Audio system standart?
Check in TVTime "Input Configuration" > "Change Default audio standart" e.g. for me only PAL-DK gives sound, all other system show video but without sound.
If this doesn't help maybe you will try to setup your built-in sound card which probably would be supported by drivers in Linux much better than SB Live IMHO. This way you would be able to check if problem lies in Line-In or not.
So once you setup it you can try to see if it works with built-in card.

You've also mentioned that Line-In is not visible on mixer, I don't know how kmix works as I'm using Gnome Volume Control and by default Line-In wasn't appear on the mixer table and I had to select it in preferences first.

Hope my reply would be helpful a bit.

I did have two problems.

Number 1 was the "Line In" was not working for the Sound Card.

I downloaded the most recent kernel for Fedora Core 4.

This fixed the problem with the "Line In" on the Soundblaster Live 24 Bit Card.

I still have the problem with the tv card audio not working. My main intent was to capture from a VCR and digitize the VCR tapes. The workaround for now is to output the Video Signal from the VCR into the tv card. streamer captures the stream no problem. I output the audio from the vcr into the SoundCard "Line In" and streamer knows to get the audio stream from the soundcard. I am just lucky I guess.

I will write more about this. The updated kernel was it's own task as it broke the driver for my NVIDIA card and I had to reload the driver and install serveral packages that the new kernel needed in order to compile NVIDIA stuff...blah blah

I can write alot more here and will soon.

If you have configured the Soundblaster Live 24 Bit and it still has no "Line In" then updating to latest Kernel for Fedora Core 4 is the answer.
