Hello. I run a Debian Lenny amd64 system with a Creative Audigy 2 sound card. I had great surround sound for a long time running on the 2.6.26-2 kernel from the debian repository.
Recently however, I wanted to learn how to optimize and build my own kernel so I downloaded the 2.6.30.2 source code from kernels.org, configured it, built it, and installed it and its modules.
The new kernel boots and runs great; however, I can't get any sound now, and I'm not sure why.
- As far as I can tell, I left all the standard ALSA options set to their default (module) during kernel config.
- I looked at the Creative website, and they say the I don't need any special drivers other than ALSA.
- The alsa utils and tools are installed.
- I ran alsaconf as root and it detected the card and it didn't report any problems.
- Even during boot it says it is running alsa and doesn't indicate any problems.
- I am a member of the audio group.
All the google searches I did didn't seem to help, as they just say that ALSA is in the 2.6 kernel so I shouldn't need to do special installation.
The only thing I can think of is: perhaps I was supposed to configure ALSA kernel options for static build, rather than loadable module?
