no sound come out when running a player with a no-root user

Hi,

I am tring to use some media player to play myself some vedios. But many players(such as movie player, flash plug-in of firefox ,etc. But mplayer worked expectedly) gave me no sound. And if I switch the current user to root, sound of all players came back.
In order to fix this problem, I looked for many things online, such as modify the settings of alsamixer. But it can't work still.

info of my system:

CentOS 6.3, kernel 3.5.4(compiled by myself)

additionally, alsa-driver didn't installed on my system(I tried to do that, but I didn't manage it),and flash plug-in of firefox worked correctly,in the past, too.

Hope you give me some tips or suggestions.

Thank you !

add your normal user to the audio and video groups

cent os normally is on a server and dose NOT come set up by default to play music or videos

years a go i stopped even bothering to try to get music and movies to play after years of "FUBAR'ing" Cent 5.0,5.1 ,5.2 ,5.3 --- to 6.3

i stopped back in Cent 6.0 ( an incompatible rpm MESS a royal "f- up" )

and do not even try

i got tired of reinstalling after making a mess with the incompatible repos needed to get it working
( install AND CONFIGURE "yum priaorites" plugin YOU WILL NEED IT !
it is a mine field -- have "fun"

and upgrading with all that RF rpm is stalled might KILL the install
so upgrading might be a very big problem

i stopped evening playing that game
and use a different OS for music and videos

replacing the 2.6 kernel with the 3.5 ???
how many times has this "creation" crashed

centos 6 is and WAS stable prior to you replacing the 2 kernel with a 3

Thank you, Jhon !

Follow your tips, I joined my nomal user into "audio" and "video" and then I chose another output device under sound settings.

Now,sound of my players all came back!

Thank you very much !

And replacing the 2.6 kernel with 3.5 is just for fun and the plugin you metioned has been installed on my system.

Thank you for your tips!
