No sound after installing Mplayer

Hi.
I have FC5, I updated everything with yum and I had xmms with xmms-mp3 installed. Music in the whole system worked, but than I downloaded and compiled Mplayer, with all the codecs. Now I can play movies, but they don't have any sound. Even the sound in xmms is gone. Actually it doesn't work in the whole system. In the section Configuration of sound card, the test sound doesn't work as well, even though it worked during the installation. In xmms the vizualization works perfectly. It doesn't throw any errors and it pretends to play the filles, but just the music is not on. Not even any tipe of noise, like some other people in this forum had.
Mplayer must have damaged some sound stuff, but I cannot find which one to reinstall. I tried to reinstal xmms with all plugins, but it didn't help. Do you have any idea, what to do? Uninstalling mplayer won't probably help, will it?

Thanks
Vasek

I seem to recall there being some master volume control. Perhaps it was somehow reset.

Perhaps try entering the command alsamixer, and see if you can modify the volume settings.

It's OK. I've got the problem. I moved my computer the day before and after that I forgot to plug in my headphones. I'm sorry for such a useless thread. All I would need is a codec for stupidity
