no printing

I try to print on my computer that has no gui installed. I tried printconf-tui to configure it with lprng, but lprng continues to say there are no printers. I then tried to configure it with cups as the printing system. I tried "lpadmin -d printer -v usb:/dev/usb/lp0 -E -P /usr/share/cups/model/HP-DeskJet_810C-hpijs-rss.ppd" <I downloaded the ppd from> but it just prints the .ps file in plain ascii. In a last desperate move, I tried to share /dev over NFS, but that still didn't work. can someone tell me whats wrong with either lpd or cups?

I tried doing "/usr/sbin/redhat-config-printer-tui --Xexport > settings.xml" on my computer that it worked on, and then doing "/usr/sbin/redhat-config-printer-tui --Ximport < settings.xml" on the one that doesn't, and it's giving me the following message:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/sbin/printconf-backend", line 7, in ?
import printconf_backend
File "/usr/share/printconf/util/", line 272, in?
(lp_uid, lp_pid) = pwd.getpwnam("lp")[2:4]
Keyerror: getpwnam():name not found
No Printers Defined [ ok ]

The problem appears to have been caused by my deleting the lp account. How do I make it back with the same permissions it had <or make a "link" account to root>?
