No outside world with sendmail and redhat 9

Recently I've been working with a friend on a Redhat 9 box, but we can't get sendmail (the latest update from redhat) to see the outside world.

I did that Daemon options thing with the loopback, but it still refuses to get mail or send mail.

In /var/log/maillog I get alot of these:

Oct 29 19:22:31 adamantine sendmail[11006]: h9S5sfxZ018300: to=<>, delay=1+18:27:50, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=esmtp, pri=4710574,, dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: Connection timed out with

and many similar

One thing we know is that the ISP is not blocking port 25 (if that would make a difference in this instance), but when I go to and do telnet 25 it just hangs and eventually times out....

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated....
