no mouse in slackware

I'm trying to install Slackware 8 and can't get the mouse to work. I have a Logitech three button serial mouse, Ive installed twice and tried different mice both times. After I reboot from the install and start X KDE come up and I see a mouse pointer, but when I move the pointer I no longer have a mouse pointer.

type xf86config in command prompt
your mouse is prolly misconfigurated you will be able to choose the good one there, but it will ask you a lot of questions so have your hardware specification ready.
