No MIDI with Powertab under WINE

I decided again to try wine so that I could use the only program that ties me to windows, Powertab. Its a guitar tablature editing program that has midi output to play the tabs.

I succesfully configured wine and installed Powertab. The only thing that does not work is the MIDI output of the tabs.

When I go to play the tab, I get a message that says

"The current MIDI setup is damaged. Copy the original MIDIMAP.CFG file to the Windows SYSTEM directory, then try again."

Refer to this screenshot: http://e.1asphost.com/Guitarist88/Im...amagedmidi.jpg

Next, I tried to configure the midi output in powertab and when I did I got this message:

"There are no MIDI output devices on this machine."

This may even be a problem with my midi device in linux. Would someone please tell me how to properly set it up?

I am using Mandrake 10, so I go to the Control Center and go to Sound System and select the hardware tab. The midi device combo box has no choices for me to select.

Thanks for your input!

I am having exactly the same issue same messages etc. running a musical notation program called Finale under wine (actually Crossover ver 3) . I have not been able to find a solution.

How to confirm /establish MIDI audio operability in Crossover Wine?

How can I figure out which version of MIDIMAP.CFG I need and where to get it. Thanks in advance.

I was able today to install Finale Notepad 2004 successfully onto a Linux box (running MEPIS - a Debian distribution). I am using Crossover version 4.1-standard as the windows emulator (Crosssover is a commercial version of the Open Source windows emulator WINE). This particular machine does not have Windows on it at all. The fonts and notations are correct and the songs play correctly (using the OSS sound drivers ).
Previously I had installed the versions of Notepad and Crossover onto a Red Hat 9 system and while the notation was correct , the songs would not play at all (due to some MIDI error).

Interestingly , I also have Finale Notepad Plus 2005 and it will not even install into this MEPIS-Linux environment. I have no version of the full Finale to test.
Cheers and good luck!
Ken
