no makefile found

Hi

I tried to install php 5.1.4 on my Mandriva 2006 distro with apache 2.0. I just extracted the php tar into a directory in my Documents in my home and executed configure. Then I executed make and I got the message make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop. Does this mean that the configure didn't work or something else?

Thanks

Neranjana

configure usually lists results; did it show any problems?

The error message comes from make, so it is installed (imho). You might be executing make from the wrong directory.

try cd to the extracted directory, then run './configure', then 'make'. If you stil lhave same problem, post the output from './configure'.

It was missing MySQL

Sorry guys,

It was due to missing MySQL client libraries. I managed to install php but couldn't start Apache. I'll post that problem separately.
