No international fonts when compiling firefox from source with xft

Hello all,

I downloaded the firefox source code from Mozilla.org's site and compiled it with xft support. Now I have a browser with lovely anti-aliased fonts but without international character support. When I go to a site such as www.haaretz.co.il, I get a bunch of squares with numbers in them.

I can get these fonts when I use the non-xft binary supplied by Mozilla.org, but then the fonts aren't anti-aliased.

Is it possible to have both anti-aliasing and international fonts? I suspect the answer is that I need to download some international ttf fonts. Where can I get those?

Here's how I installed firefox if it is important:

Code:

export MOZILLA_OFFICIAL="1" &&
export BUILD_OFFICIAL="1" &&
export MOZ_PHOENIX="1" &&
./configure --prefix=/opt/firefox-0.8 \
            --enable-default-toolkit=gtk2 \
            --with-x --with-system-zlib \
            --with-system-jpeg --with-system-png --with-system-mng \
            --enable-xft --enable-crypto \
            --disable-accessibility \
            --disable-tests --disable-debug \
            --disable-logging --enable-reorder \
            --enable-strip --disable-pedantic \
            --enable-cpp-rtti --enable-extensions=all \
            --disable-calendar --disable-mailnews &&
make &&
make install &&
ln -sf /opt/firefox-0.8/bin/firefox /usr/bin/MozillaFirefox

Wow, what a great question!

I found some Hebrew TT fonts here: http://culmus.sourceforge.net

and some Arabic ones here: http://www.arabeyes.org

Looks like you need to do a search for True Type fonts for the particular character set.

Good Luck!
