"no hdlists found" error

Hi Everyone,
I just burned a copy of Mandrake 8.2 and tried to install it on my laptop. It lets me repartition my disk, but as soon as it starts the "searching for packages to install" step, I get an error message saying "no hdlists found".
I know some people have posted problems like this with earlier versions of Mandrake, but has anyone else had this problem with 8.2?

Did you first check the md5sum?

I had the same problem. You need to run some sort of disk checking/fixing utility. I am inexperienced in linux myself so I used the XP recovery console's chkdsk. If someone knows what the linux equivilent and how to access it please post. If not that's all I know. It worked for me:cry:

I had the same problem

And come to find out it was a bad cd-rom drive. The drive just up and died while I was installing. Kinda odd, but It happens.

Also, most laptops have a save-to-file/partition function that you may want to disable unless you know how to install linux with it.

the save to hdd partition

I have only installed linux to one laptop, and i always turn off teh save to part. as to me it's a waste of time/hdd space. But unless I'm mistaken, that should just me a matter of not wipeing out the partition is it not? On most of the Compaq's and HP's I've delt with(and I use thoes as they are the one's I have the most experance with) it was a partition that was just there, non-dos... really non anything. Looks like it would just be a matter of makeing Linux realize that it needs to be left alone, and let the hardware take care of the rest as it is a function of the CMOS and not the software, in most cases that I have seen. Though admitly enough, I have see some dells that were software controlled, but as I am the way I am, disable and go on:)
