Apologies if this has already been dealt with, but since upgrading to Ubuntu 18.04 I'm unable to specify text or background colours in Thunderbird.
I can choose a colour from the selection offered, or type my own hex codes, but the text remains dark grey on a light grey background, and choosing some colours causes the text size to change.

Should we presume you are talking about when you are composing a message?
If not, please explain where you are trying to change colors.
Yes, it's when I'm composing a message. I get the option to choose colours, as in previous versions, but it just doesn't happen. The version of Thunderbird I'm using is 60.9.0 (64-bit).
Plain text is good enough most of the time (which is why I've put up with it for so long), but there are times when it would be useful to change background colours or add emphasis to the text by having (for example) key phrases in a different colour.
Yes, I've already got it set up like that on each e-mail account.
Btw, please don't think I'm ignoring you if I don't respond for some time. I've had a tiring day and may have a visitor tomorrow, so I'll be getting to bed soon (I'm in the UK).
Strange. I've had an e-mail saying jakobsson has replied to this thread, but there's nothing here.
Nothing's changed in Thunderbird. I get the colour grid, or can type my own hex codes, but both the text and background remain the same, a light grey background with text in a darker shade of grey, not even properly black on white, and sometimes the text size changes as I'm typing.
