no boot from iso burned onto dvd

Hi all,

I have made several attempts of burning SuSE 9.2 - and other Linux OS - from iso's with my SONY DVD RW DRU-510A - onto DVD -RW.
It seems to work all fine - until I try restarting and booting from the newly burned DVD..
It won't boot from the DVD - I can see that the system waits a little while - then gives up - and continues with normal boot from HD..

Any solution..?

When you say that you burned the iso to disk, how did you do it? Does your dvd have a single .iso file on it or does it have direcories and files?

it's with folders - included sub-folders and files:
dists
doc
install
pics
pool
preceed
tools
..and files:
md5sum
readme

Is your DVD player listed in the BIOS as a "boot from" option? If so, (silly question) is it set to boot from said player? Have you tried creating a boot floppy to see if that is a suitable workaround? (the instructions will be on your dvd)

Is there a prompt while the box "waits"? My laptop needs a F12 for bootup from USB or DVD / CD while POST, my other box needs a SPACE for this.

P.S.: Post No. 100, yipiie!

FYI

Yes - my BIOS is setup for booting with the correct DVD player/burner..
After making a new burn - I tried again.. No result..
Then I tried to disable boot from HD.. So as to try and force the system to only boot from the DVD..
After a looong wait - system 'thinking' - the DVD suddenly booted..?!
Surprise surprise..
