no acceptable C compiler found

hi im new to linux, and i im trying to compile a program for source. but when i i do i get this message:
configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH
See `config.log' for more details.

does that mean i dont have a compiler for the code. i thought that when i installed my distro. (suse) it would come withe one that works..
