NFS and X

I'm using Slack 9.1. My home network has both XP and Linux workstations that grab files from my Slack server. Mostly I try to share my home directory via NFS and Samba. In KDE, I try to mount my NFS exports from the server and it looks like they connect without any error messeges, but when I 'ls' my home directory they aren't there. I can hit CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE and relogin, then 'ls' my home dir and they are there. What could be happening here?

To top it all off here is the wierdest thing. After I relogin, I can see and download files for the NFS server. They show up in my local directory and I can use them just fine. But when I reboot, the files that I transfered to my local computer are no longer there.

Am I just crazy?
