nforce platform drivers and 2.6.5

i just compiled new kernel v2.6.5 and wanted to install latest nForce platform drivers ( Version: 1.0-0261; Release Date: June 11, 2003 ).

in README there was:

Minimum Requirements

At the current time, the nForce drivers require a 2.4 series kernel.

does that mean that drivers are upward compatible?

i think it is yes/no question, but i couldn't find any answers.

No, they require a 2.4 series kernel, not 2.2 and not 2.6.

You can use the forcedeth driver in 2.6.4 and later for the integrated nForce2 network device. You will find it under Device Drivers --> Networking Support --> Ethernet (10 and 100mbit) --> Reverse Engineered nForce Ethernet support.

The sound is usable with the snd-intel8x0 Alsa driver.
