* Checking for suitable kernel configuration options:
* Some of the drivers you selected require PNP in your kernel (interwave inte rwave-stb). Either enable PNP in your kernel or trim which drivers get compiled using ALSA_CARDS in /etc/make.conf.
* Please check to make sure these options are set correctly.
* Failure to do so may cause unexpected problems.
* Once you have satisfied these options, please try merging

Looks like you must of selected something in alsa when you did your kernel. The default has I think intel810 and ac97 selected. You may need to make sure you only have alsa as "m" and then nothing after that. From the guide ;
# CONFIG_SOUND is set. (Basic Sound support enabled)
# CONFIG_SOUND_PRIME is not set. (In-built OSS support disabled)
# CONFIG_SND is not set. (In-built ALSA support disabled)
