Newsticker in Evolution is gone?

There used to be a newsticker in evolution, yesterday I installed along with gnome evolution 2. Now I don't seem to find it, is it a plug-in that I am missing?

tnx,
Elluva

If you're talking about the beloved summary view, yes, it's gone. I wrote Novell about this a while back, and this is the response I got:

Quote:

Thank you for submitting a user comment. As for your question about
the summary view, unfortunately, this view is gone and currently there
are no plans to reinstate it. Sorry.

There's also been some discussion of this on the main Novell forum at http://support-forums.novell.com/gro...3/@article@313 . Here's what a volunteer sysop wrote:

Quote:

I know that everyone is beating up on Novell for this - it is, after all a Novell product now. However, just so that you don't think that Novell is purposefully out to ruin your love of Evolution , the decision to take this feature out, and the development cycles that removed it, preceded the Novell acquisition of Ximian. Novell will certainly have to take the "blame" now, and your pleas to get it back will need to go to Novell, but Novell isn't really the "reason" the feature is gone.

Write Novell. From what the guy wrote above, it looks as if there's little chance of the Summary page's being resurrected short of a mass uprising.

could you post the email address, so I can send a mail. Summary has to go back in, 'c mon it is one of the things I love best about Evolution

The way I contacted Evolution was to work through Novell's labyrinthine website and, after establishing a user account or some such thing, post a message. I heard back about a month later, I think.

I'm reluctant to post the e-mail address of the guy who wrote to me, as it's his own address at Novell. His inbox might get swamped, and we might lose an advocate, too. Instead, I've just now written to him to ask how we should register our complaint with Novell.

Meanwhile, you could try posting something on the Evolution section of the Novell Discussion Server:

http://support-forums.novell.com/gro...@article@first

There used to be a Usenet group, but I don't think it's active or, if so, isn't monitored.

Vive la (r)Evolution!

How to ask Novell to return the summary view

One of the sysops on the Novell Evolution web forum said this:

If you want to see the summary view returned to Evolution , post your request at the following site:

http://support.novell.com/enhancement/

Unfortunately, you have to register with your e-mail address and some other info. Still, if enough people request it, perhaps they'll listen. I mentioned in my request that, when Evolution had the summary view, I usually left it open on the screen so I could easily read news and weather updates, see if new mail had arrived, etc. But I would never leave the plain inbox or calendar view on the screen. That just reminds me of all the stuff that I have to do, without any enjoyable distractions or without any pleasing display.
