Newest Knoppix iso too big for CD

I've made a number of Knoppix boot disks in the past without problems. I downloaded Knoppix+V_5.1.1CD-2007-1014-EN.iso yesterday and tried to burn it to a CD but got a message that the image would not fit on the disk. I fetched another copy from a different source but the same thing happened.

On paper the size of the new image is the same as previous version so I have no idea why this is happening.

Try a different blank CD?
Some are 650MB, and others are 700

I assume you are using the "burn from iso" option, and not just trying to copy the file.

Just using cdrecord <filename> exactly as in the past. I also tried it on a different computer with Gnome - same thing.

[A bit later]

You may be right about the disk problems. The disks I have (Verbatim) are supposed to be 700M but perhaps they are faulty, because I blanked a Maxell RW disk and it did accept the iso file. However, when I tried to boot from it nothing happened.
