Newbie second thoughts

Hi All
This is my first post. I updated my email address and got a message from the site that I had never posted. I have never thought this to be compulsory but to keep the server happy this is my post. The moderator can take responsibility for finding the correct forum for it.

My problem is I cannot set up my email client.

I have just successfully installed ADSL with Windows XP PRO as the operating system. Swapped out the hard drive to one with Mandriva which is running well. Mandriva accepted the ADSL modem and connection without asking me to do anything ( fantastic because I can build computers but the software is a mystery to me).

My problem is I do not know how to set up my email. I tried KPPP and Kontact but neither seems to have provision for ADSL. My ADSL is set up for connection at boot. Is there another program in the Mandriva suite which I should use to configure my email or am I just too dumb to fill in the right boxes in KPPP or Kontact.

If I can get this working I am going to get rid of Windows XP and switch almost full time to Linux.

first--is your connection working? eg can you open a browser and get to a web site?

The e-mail client does not care if you are using ADSL--it needs only the server names for incoming and outgoing mail--you get these from your ISP.

Tell us which items in the e-mail setup you don't have answers for....

I was a little confused by your post. Are you trying to (A) set up and use your connection to the internet, or (B) set up your program to retrieve mail (B being dependent on A)?

If your modem connection is fine, which you can verify by using your web browser for example, then you need to tell KMail your email account settings, e.g. POP3, IMAP. You can find out these settings by contacting/surfing the mail provider.
