close, but no cigar...
RPM - Stands for Redhat Package Manager (taken from the linux command 'rpm).
It's an installable package designed specifically for Linux Redhat Distributions. They are also known to work with Mandrake Linux Distributions.
tar.gz - Is a Tarred (compressed) and Zipped (many files into one) file. That's the "winzip" file you can relate with.
Apparently all that ATI offers is the RPM's. I searched their site for source, but I don't believe it's readily available. This means you have to sort through their README's and support to find out what you need on your machine to get it all up and running.
I still consider myself a newbie too, so correct me if i'm wrong, but i hope this will help get you started. One thing i've realized with Linux is that everything is fairly easy to do... it just takes a lot of configuration, time and research.
