Newbie Question?

How the heck do you make a shortcut to a webpage on the desktop using mozilla? I tried to right click and make one but that didnt work, and when i try to drag the page url to the desktop it comes up with some box that says filename for clipboard content, Does that have anything to do with a shortcut?

You'll have to tell the people here what window manager you're using as the problem (?) lies there

Well what desktop are you using? You could always create a script that looks like this:

mozilla http://www.linuxquestions.org

That would do the trick.

oops sorry

Sorry im using KDE.

I'm using Mandrake 9.1, and I have to put 'soundwapper <path to mozilla shell-script>' as the command to execute from the icon. I found that 'soundwrapper' was needed to launch programs from KDE. Don't enter the mozilla-bin executable as the command; the shell-script is needed to set up the environment for the executable. The shell-script will be in /usr somewhere, depending on your distribution.

hmmm...I did not know that. What is this 'soundwrapper' script and what does it do? Why is it not necessary to use soundwrapper from a shell in kde to launch a program yet it is necessary for a script?

Nicksan 05-31-2003 05:12 PM

What are you talking about?

I have absolutly no idea what your talking about, soundwapper what is that? I just want to make a shortcut to a web page on the desktop while i am websurfing and i find a website i like. like making a shortcut to the dekstop in windows by choosing save to desktop.

Soundwrapper? I looked further and it seems it really has nothing to do with KDE, as such. It was used in relation to launching Xmms. So, disregard all about soundwrapper. (Somehow before, Mozilla had an error on launch until I put that before the command, then it worked (!) - I just removed it and it now works without it (!!); sorry for the confusion).

Now, how to put a shortcut on the desktop to a web page: in your browser, highlight the url in the address bar and right-click->copy (or Ctrl-C). Then right-click the desktop and select Create New->Link to Location (URL)... Paste your link into the dialog box and enter a name for the desktop icon that you want it known for, then click OK. Double-clicking on the desktop icon will launch the link in your default browser.

Geoff.

Hey everyone,

I get the exact same error message when I try to copy and paste from my windows partition to my linux partition.

I'm also using KDE, mandrake 9.1.

This just started happening a couple of days ago.
