Newbie In Need Of Help!


well here is the deal i am trying out red hat 7.2 becuase it seemed to be cool and it is I just need to know how do install apps to it? I downloaded AIM for it but i dont know how to get it to run. Also I wanted to know how do i watch AVI files in red hat. I was thinking about getting wine but 1 i dont know how to install apps LOL! and i am not sure how it works. So can you GURU's help a poor noobie.

what kind of file is it ?? an rpm or tar.gz type file.. ?? if so, try searching this site as installing apps or packages of these types are asked and answered all the time..

AVI files are usually divx files. Linux has a divx codec available that you'll have to download on the web. Just look up linu divx in a search engine. As far as a player for these AVI/DIVX files I recommend either XINE or Mplayer which both play mpeg-1 and divx. Just look em all up in a search engine.
