Hi Butterfly, I highly recommend replacing the outdated Xandros operating system with a currently-supported, user friendly "distribution" such as Ubuntu. Here is an easy 1-2-3-4 tutorial showing how you can get started with Ubuntu Netbook Edition: http://www.ubuntu.com/netbook/get-ubuntu/download

The best part is you can try before you install (Step 3) so if you prefer Xandros, you can keep it.

Good luck!

Hi tthebutterfly,

I think snowpine is right, if the distribution on your laptop is outdated, you'd be better of to install a fullfeatured modern distribution like Ubuntu or Mint.

Hello tthebutterfly,

from all your posts I can't seem to really understand what you want to do. If you downloaded the isofile for Ubuntu, you'll have to create a bootable USB-stick, and then install Ubuntu. The program "unetbootin" will help you http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/

If you don't want to install Ubuntu, please let us know which system you're running and post the output
Code:
uname -a
this will help to find out if and how it is possible to upgrade your system. In order to open a terminal, look if there is a programmenu anywhere and try to finde a program with the name "konsole", "xterm" or "terminal", the terminal is similar to M$'s dosshell.

Since you are running Xandros 4. In easy desktop (screenshot link I posted). Quickest way to open Terminal.

Ctrl + Alt + t

I know the post is marked solved. But a little added info never hurts. Also. There are a lot of Xandros and EEEPC tips in that wiki I pointed to also. Good Luck with it thebutterfly.
