Smile Newbie -How to create shared volume group using native LVM and VCS 5.1 with Red Hat 5

Hi, Three months new to Linux and have been task with putting a two node Red Hat cluster together and not finding a enough information or how to’s online. So, joined the forum!

I am using two Sun x4100’s, Red Hat 5.4, VCS 5.1, DMMP and Hitachi storage. My boss has asked for Veritas file system as well (not sure if this will work yet either). I battled through the bug of not having the RH install put all under root, as /var was separated and hung the system when storage is attached.

Right now I can see storage and multipathing looks to be working. My thought was to test out mounting the storage on each system before moving on to the VCS install.

Is it possible to use native LVM for the shared storage? The VCS guide keeps referring back to VXVM.
Does anyone have any “How to docs” they can share?
Is the Red Hat Cluster Suite a better way to go?

Thanks michaelp

Yes, and I opened a case and did not hear back. Only one email on the account and it is not mine. So, you know how that goes.

I hear you. Nothing worse than not getting any support when you’re paying for it! Have you been able to reach them yet? If not, you might want to consider other vendors for support. For example, several companies are now getting support for their RHEL platform from Novell. I’ve seen some solid data that their the responsiveness is better (word is they actually follow up!) and the cost can be a low as half what you’re currently paying.
