I don't know much about linux patches for windows games, but I know that Wine from http://www.winehq.org will emulate quite a few windows games without patches. It's especially nice for programs that do not have a linux version. There's also a list of popular games on www.frankscorner.org and what you have to do to make them work in linux. I've also heard good things about www.transgaming.com's WineX, but I haven't tried it...
Regarding the dual boot... I installed a dual boot Win98/Redhat 8 system and used the LILO boot loader. I have an 80G hard drive that I originally partitioned into 10G for Windows, 10G for Linux and the rest as a shared FAT partition.
However, LILO would never prompt at boot to select different OS's. After much searching of the 'net, i found out that the first partition could not be bigger than 8G, so i had to re-partition and start again.
Has anyone else had this problem, and is there a way around this (apart from using a boot disk). I don't know if GRUB works better?
for your games to run in your system from one platform in the other, best solution, of course, is to have the native support (instead of those damned exe files u get a linux version, in simple terms) but still, sometimes they don't have it (i.e. i think max payne's a good game and it doesn't have a linux port) for those u can run winex3, supports many windows executable 3d games, max payne, for instance, and so far i've tested warcraft 3 (works great).
for games like Unreal/UT2k3 they have a native support installer for linux (check out the 3rd cd of ut2k3, for instance) i just found that out myself
oh (i hate to do this but i really wanna emphasize) winex3 works great!
I'm running Mandrake 9.1 with Lilo on both my laptop and desktop. On each I'm running >30GB for XP and >10GB for linux. I've never heard of the 8GB rule. Is that perhaps for older revs of lilo?
Side note: I recall that each partition was originally created with Partition Magic 8.0. I know some companies throw a lot of crap into the MBR. I had a Fuji disk partition SW that came with the HD and put all sorts of fluff on the MBR. But I don't think that this is the case here.

You only get this problem with RedHat, and only because RedHat still ship with an outdated LILO, all other distro's ship with versions of LILO that don't suffer from this problem, if you use redhat and like using LILO you should download and install a newer version. GRUB has never had this problem.
The info about the BIOS changes is particularly important. The rest of the site has interesting reading also.
Lilo in Mandrake 9.1 is not very fussy where your boot partition is located. Mine is on a HD attached to a plug-in UltraATA100 PCI controller card, and the partition appears after a 15GB Windows partition. Lilo looks after everything for you.
One thing that stumps most newbies in Mandrake - the sound is muted by default (!). After the installation is completed, log into KDE, go through the K->Multimedia->Sound menu and select KMix. Configure the slider settings and then save the settings (File->Save Current Volumes as Default) and then exit (use the dialog close widget in the top right corner of the dialog, not File->Quit). You should then see a speaker icon in the system tray with a cross on it. Right-click the icon and select 'Mute' to toggle the cross off. You should then have sound. If you select File->Quit, KMix will close completely with no icon in the system tray, and you will not see that the sound has been muted; a real gotcha.
Another question that i have is about the partition.
I have Partition magic 8.0.
I will made one partition of 40GB in FAT32 for ME, and another in ext3 for linux.
Will the linux partition report the same size as the FAT32?
I will not need anithyng helse?
Itīs just this i have to doo right?

More or less, depending on how Partition magic split the drive. Hardware manufacturers and software companies do not count drive space the same way.
It is common to need a swap partition during a Linux install, also. (2x RAM more or less).
If the space is free Mandrake should know what to do with it.
Ho man, i havent tried Linux, but i already love it...
You guys are reallya community, in the real sence of the word...
I hope that i will be part of it...
The support here itīs great...
Thanks again guys...
I think that today, i will finish the download, and maybe install the OS...
I will poast how everiting goes...
