Newbie has success with Mozilla, RealPlayer, Now seeking Linux PS and DW alternative.

Reading the forums, it seems that emany people (like me) has had problems trying to get real player and mozilla (v1.7) to work together (particulary on the BBC website). Well I now am listening to a BBC stream with thier web based media player. What I did was download the helix player version (Real Player 10) from real.

However when you click an audio link i get the following error message:

"the helixPlayer plugin and mozilla were compiled with different versions of gcc"

So i just click OK and it plays the embeded stream... sometimes. When it dosnt I just click the launch file in external player link and that works.

So, anyone know how to get round this error message? what is a GCC.

Also any ideas how to configure the status details to show up on embeded real media players?

Unfortunatly, my success was down more to luck than judgement, after much installing/uninstalling deleting files (i had to extract the helix player mozilla pluggins seperately from the tar as they would'nt install with the rest of the RPM.

Anyway, BBC fans can safely migrate to Linux!

All I need now to say goodbye forever to XP is a good alternative to Photoshop and Dreamweaver.

Anyone got any sujestions?

The Gimp serves all my Photoshop needs
GCC is the gnu compile collection. I don't get those error messages when I listen to the BBC with the old Realplayer 8

The best graphical editor for HTML is probably nVu.

However, for HTML development environments, you have loads to choose from - bluefish and quanta are both popular
