Unhappy newbie gentoo login


I insalled gentoo...and got it to boot from floppy...but now i'm getting this prompt:

This is rfw.unknown_domain (Linux i686 2.6.11-gentoo-r6)

rfw login:
Password:

i tried root and return and it doesnt work!...i didnt set a password whn i installed!...any suggestions????

during gentoo installation, did you type 'passwd' when you were in your chrooted environment?
if not, reboot with your installation cd and mount your drives again, chroot to your / and type passwd, and then enter your password.

You do not need to reinstall anything

Ya, the reason for this is Gentoo scrambles the root passwd for security reasons... which requires you to explicitly create one while in the chroot environment. It is bad news to bring up a machine with no root passwd, especially if you have added sshd to the bootup run scripts....
