New to Linux - bootloader with Win XP/Mandrake 10.1
Ok, for starters let me say that I am a total noob to Linux. I have never truely used the system before and am looking to learn more and more about it. I'm not making the full 100% switch to Linux yet since I am just learning, but I want to do that in the future. That said, I am very computer savvy and know my way around (I'm a computer analyst for a large company by trade). Here is my question. I have two physical drivers in my machine. I have Win XP SP2 on the primary drive and want to load Mandrake 10.1 on the secondary drive. Is there a way that I can put a bootloader on the machine so that I can choose to load Win XP from my primary drive or load Mandrake 10.1 from my secondary drive?

Hello.........
Of course you can, by default, linux use Grub or Lilo like system loaders, the two loaders can be configured to add a windows system
Normally this can be done during the installation of the Linux OS, but, if you desire, you can choose to add the partition later by configuring the Lilo.conf or Grub.conf
Bye

And Mandrake is a great first distro, you will recieve a lot of advice on which distro to use. For a first time install Mandrake sets up and runs on almost anything. To include installing the boot loader (lilo or grub) and should you change your mind later Mandrake install disk 1 will even help you restore your original MS boot loader, isn't that nice of them?
