new stable kernel = new ati drivers?

hi all!

I've had troubles with the 3D acceleration for my ATI 8500 since I compiled the 2.6kernel-testX. I wasn't able in any way to install the closed ATI drivers

do you think that now that the 2.6 stable kernel was released, they will release also a new driver that will work properly with this kernel?
