Hello,

what do I need and/or how do I configure Thunderbird so that it prevents me about new mail ? I want to keep its window minimized and to get informed by some "event"

You could set it to play a sound when you get a new mail. If you run KDE, kbiff will sit in your system tray and notify you when you get new mail.

There is a package called mail-notification.i386 . If you install and setup mail notification, it will let you know when new mail has arrived. You can click on the new mail icon which will open up thunderbird.
