new kernel not supporting intel nic adapter
hi all
i have sucessfully compiled a new kernel rehat 2.6.14.
the problem is that it is not getting my one of the 2 nic card that is of intel pro/100.

i install the module e100 but it not geting it. and it hangs when it tries to start network.

my other kernle (i.e 2.6.9) is working fine with modprobe e100.

why the kernel 2.6,14 is hanging? can any one help me?

thanks in advance.

Redhat only works with Redhat kernel packages. If you compile your own kernel in Redhat you are on your own. Redhat has an update function to install the latest packages for your version. That is how to upgrade the kernel in Redhat. If you want a system to fool around with try Debian.

Your problem is you installed the wrong kernel. Your solution is to install the right kernel. The right kernel is an rpm format kernel image from the Redhat update archive for your version of Redhat.
