New install - boot up problems

I have just installed Linux Mint 12 as a dual-boot on my laptop, but it will now not boot to Windows XP at all, and has trouble booting into Mint successfully.

I have started a thread over on the Mint forum, but wanted to place a plea for help on this forum too, in case it really has nothing to do with Mint itself but is more of a Grub problem.

The thread on the Mint forum is at http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...-a-4175431283/

I know that LQ frowns on people placing duplicate posts for the same problem on multiple forums, so I hope this approach is permissible? I can see no way of linking the same thread to more than one forum.

Actually spawning the same questions across multiple threads adds confusion, since most likely you will receive (different) answers in different places. I suggest to keep the discussion in one place, then if you see you don't receive enough or proper responses to your question, you can always ask to move the thread to another forum in order to improve its visibility. In this case you can REPORT your own thread and ask a moderator to move it. This one closed as duplicate.
