New GNOME Taskbar animation?

I just installed Mandriva 2006. It seems that some taskbar items (ie. XMMS) have an animated effect: they dim to a dark grey and then back to a light grey. It looks like an interesting effect, but I can't figure out why it is happening. I would think that the animation would be used to notify me of something, but there was nothing in XMMS that needed attention. Does anyone know why this animation appears?

could it be that it's a default "effect" or "behaviour" for this latest of mandriva releases ????? i.e. something that can be "switched off" if you find it annoying??

regards

John
