OK.
Let's start with the media players. Some are better than others, which one are you using.
I recommend MPlayer
http://www.mplayerhq.hu
Java.
What is the problem exactly. Is it an installation problem ?

MPlayer.
Did you install the GUI or non-GUI RPM of MPlayer ?
Are there any error messages ?
Java
Did you download and install the RPM or a Binary ?
If you want to find the Java plug-in, use the find command:
Code:
find / -name libjavaplugin_oji.so

Do a search among the installed RPM for MPlayer using the following command.
Code:
rpm -qa | grep mplayer
It will return a list of all MPLayer RPMs installed.
Also, I do not exactly understand the problem concerning your CD drive.

Hello,
I just moved the thread to Linux - Software. I think it's closer related to your post and more people will be able to read it (and help you).
