Network traffic monitoring

We have servers in local site and remote site , we just found that the network ( leased line ) is always busy but we do not know what is running in the network ( may be use rcp , scp file between the network ) , can advise is there any tools that can be used to monitor the network that can show what is running ?

or make it simplier , if I just would like to know is there the server copying file (eg. via ftp , scp , rcp ) to remote server , what can I do ?

Thanks.

If you truly have no idea what's running, start with netstat http://linux.die.net/man/8/netstat at both ends eg to see listening tcp services
Code:
netstat -tanp
For a detailed look, try packet captures with tcpdump http://linux.die.net/man/8/tcpdump

Also have a look at your firewall settings (iptables http://linux.die.net/man/8/iptables)
