alright so i am trying to get a map of my entire network or this whole school for when i leave for mongolia so other people can figure it out. but i would like to model in 3d(i don't need a perfect model) i just need to do basic stuff and show what connections go from switch to switch and from switch to router and hops. i need to do multiple buildings that are all conneced wirelessly and wired so people can understand it better. this network is always breaking and it needs new hardware but we don't have enough money on budget. i'm looking for a program that runs under windows and linux and is easy to learn. or is there a similar file type between different 3d modeling programs? also what would be a good fly around in the 3d model program?
Probably the first one everyone will is say is Belnder 3d.Another is Wings 3d.Both have windows and linux versions.Blender does more than modeling.it does rigging, animation, particle fx,etc..It has a compositor..Wings 3d is just a modler.
Blender has alot of documentation and there are plenty of other sites that have tutorials.there are some video tutorials if you look on youtube. It was used to make this short film.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=allOsEHARo8
It takes awhile to get used to interface.
Wings 3d is easier to figure out because its a more simpler program.Just a modeler..while blender is a 3d animation package.
