netatalk, random file locks

howdy all,
i have a netatalk server that i can copy to, copy from, and run apple programs from. permissions are spot on. the current problem though is that when i go to copy a folder from a mac, to the linux machine running netatalk, it will copy a few things and then stop on a file saying something along the lines of "could not copy because it is locked". this only seems to happen when there are hundreds of files in that folder. so it does end up creating the folder, and copies a few files into it but then cancels the copy once it reaches the apparently locked file, and it is the same file every time.

i have checked for locks and there are none. and if i copy that file separately it will work perfectly. it's only when i choose to copy a folder that has many files within it. also, if i delete the "locked" file, it will then copy everything up to the next file - which it will say is locked.

the version information is linux 2.4.22 with netatalk 1.6.4, copying to a freshly formatted reiserfs volume.

has anyone come across this problem and has a solution or an idea i can try that i haven't already? thanks in advance for any help.
