Nervous to Upgrade Apache

I wanted to upgrade Apache to the latest version so I downloaded the source. Now I read the documentation but it seems like there is no way to keep your existing configuration files. Also I'm not very clear on all the modules that I need to specify during configuration.

There are no "Upgrade" links on Apache's site. Could someone tell me how they successfully updated Apache without a lot of grief.

Thanks.

Back up your configuration files - httpd.conf, php.ini, and any includes (I have scrolling thru the httpd.conf so I keep my virtualhosts and php stuff in separate include files).
