need wordprocessor that shows cursor position in inches

i need a Linux WordProcessor that shows the cursor position in inches:

e.g I need to type on line that is 3.75" down from the top and start at 2.25" in from the edge

this is for filling out forms that were created in 1937 and have been scanned into .pdf format or handed out as printed copies

any ideas will be greatly appreciated !!

In my Libreoffice writer.

I can insert a text box, move it to where I want by clicking the right mouse over it and then setting the position and size.

Didn't experiment much, but you can probably format the text to the size which works for you too.

Seems the most likely thing since you probably have a box range of placement for the text to go into each form.

I'd set each form type as your document background, and then you can visually see the alignment far better.

thanks for the reply !!

I think I have a suitable solution:

What I did was to scan her form at 200 dpi in black-white

loading the .jpeg into INKSCAPE it was easy to insert the text as needed

the best part was that Inkscape printed the completed document properly

I don't know if we have a Forms Editor around someplace; seems like somone would have run into this by now.

the instructor passed out printed forms, and said they had to be typed. hmmmmmmmm, even if I could find a typewriter I'd never come up with a ribbon for it
