Question Need to reinstall Windoze 98SE on dual boot with linux mandrake 8

Can tell me how to reinstall Windoze on a dual-boot with Linux without killing mandrakes boot menu?

Will it be ok if I don't actually reformat the windoze partition, or will Windoze still mess it up?

I don't have any linux boot disks
I don't know how to make them

I AM a complete newbie to linux

Make the boot floppy by going to the "K" menu -> Configuration -> Boot and Init -> DrakFloppy. Put a disk in your floppy drive, check the defaults, and make the boot disk. Test it to see if it works. When you re-install Windows, it will overwrite your MBR. Can't change that. If you don't move any partitions around or create new ones, your lilo or grub menus ought to be fine. Once Windows is installed, boot with the Mandrake boot floppy, get a root commandline prompt and, for grub, do:

# cd /boot/grub
# sh

for lilo, do:

# /sbin/lilo

I think that ought to do it. If I'm wrong, maybe someone else can help out here or maybe you could do a search for re-installing grub/lilo at Google Groups.

Good luck.

Don't know about your config..but for me I did the Xact same

thing, and it did NOT kill LILO, however my REwindoze install

was on a different hard-drive....Not sure if it will kill LILO

if it's on the same drive or not.......I was amazed!!!

thank you Mandrake!!
