Need to install nvidia driver on FC5 machine
Hey Everyone,
I am trying to install the nvidia driver onto a FC5 machine (Dell Vostro) but am having trouble since nvidia does not recognize the kernel. I did a custom cold start so I may have left something out which could affect the nvidia driver. Now I am going to re cold start the machine and make sure everything is on it to see if that helps. Are there any options I need to selct during the cold start procedure so I can install the nvidia driver? Once I have cold started the machine, how do I go about installing the nvidia driver? I am new to linux so a step by step explanation would be great Thanks for any help! |
You got Fedora Core 5? Time to upgrade :).
IF it is Fedora you want the version nunber now is 9. Everything including drivers are much new(er) than FC5. Best regards Stardustdk |
yeah I know it's a little outdated but the nvidia driver is needed for a program that was written in FC4 and I've been told that it may have some compatability issues if it is used on FC versions higher than 5.

You can do it
Hello,
I am running FC5. You get the Kernel & the nvidia driver from livna this might work http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mj...c5.html#nvidia |
Another thing you might try is a Live-CD :).
Check this page: http://fedoraproject.org/en/get-fedora - if you want to be sure without risks. Best regards Stardustdk |
