need to disable fam, or atleast make it igore /mnt/ dirs

Hey guys,
ive always experianced this problem in GNOME,
but only just discovered the cause.

evey time i mount a directory using any other methos than mount /devblah blah blag in a command line, a process called fam jumps on it.

man fam tells me fam is a program for telling other programs (such as the disk browser nautilis) when a directory or file is changes.

the problem is, i cannot unmount a drive while fam is sitting on it !!!

how can i make fam ignore directoryes that i need to mount and unmount (all the ones in /mnt (cdrom, hdb1, cdrom1 and floppy)

ive even tried killall fam, whhich allows me to nmount currently mounted drives. but the second i mount anouther drive.. fam's sitting on it again !!!!

im using fedora core 1, with Gnome 2.4

thanKs to any surgestions...
(ive already looked for fam i services, its not there)
